Polar bear mum helps baby

Mothers helping babies are not an unusual sight, but it isn’t every day we have a chance to help a polar bear mum help her cub. The little one couldn’t quite climb up onto the iceberg. So the mother reached down a paw and gave the cub a lift.

The act was caught on video by someone from the RRS James Clark Ross, a research vessel on the UK Ocean Acidification cruise. The polar bears were on sea ice off Greenland’s east coast.
