The 84 square feet she calls home

Dee Williams wanted to simplify her life, to have more time for the things she wants to do and more money for things that mattered, like helping her family. So with the help of salvaged lumber, she built her own house.

It sits on wheels, on a friend’s lot, and takes up less room than a parking space. In exchange for a place to put her tiny home, she works on her friend’s house.

When I was trying to rebuild my life and realizing the odds of ever being able to afford a house again were slim, I looked into the tiny house movement. A starting place for anyone wanting to scale way down is Tiny House Design. Tumbleweed Tiny House has some beautiful designs. And Tiny House Living is a weekly online newsletter with links to many other tiny-house sites.
