The Twittersphere responds to disaster in Japan

When the earthquake shook Japan on March 11th, the Twittersphere’s response was nearly instantaneous. Even in Japan, with the phone system knocked out, 1200 Tweets a minute were coming out of Tokyo alone (measured by Tweet-o-Meter).

One person (modernman15, whose profile reads: “My names Tucker Iida and I am 16 years old”) patched together messages purportedly from Twitter, interspersed them with photos, and added a musical score. The video tells some of the most poignant and inspiring stories of the immediate aftermath.
